# Release Notes

# 2.9 Release

November 5, 2025

  • Permian Performance Index Report (opens new window):
    • New PDP Insights. This new section provides a comprehensive view of producing assets with total production to date, EUR, and remaining reserves for PDP wells. This will be invaluable for benchmarking performance across operators, counties, and basins to identify leaders, laggards, and emerging opportunities.
    • New Remaining Production Analytics. This section enables you to quickly analyze remaining production for both PDP and PUD wells powered by PetroAI’s Predict Engine. You'll be able to quantify upside potential across regions & intervals to support smarter field development and portfolio planning.
  • Build speed improvements:
    • Significant changes to the backend compute system which will translate to faster build times - both Inventory-only builds and model building.

# 2.8 Release

October 21, 2025

  • Public dashboards:
    • The PetroAI platform can now host public, interactive reports. The first, already available, is the Permian Performance Index Report (url: https://petro.ai/permianreport)
  • Spotfire upgrade:
    • We've made some major improvements in how Spotfire is run in the backend that have a host of benefits - improved monitoring, debugging, and integration into the deployment service we use for all over aspects of the PetroAI platform.
  • Better map building:
    • The inventory design map depends on maps built by the backend. We've made substantial improvements to the performance and stability of this map building service.

# 2.7 Release

September 30, 2025

  • User Notification Updates:
    • After launching a build, the user now receives email notifications on build start, failed, and completion events.
  • Expanded attribute extraction for modeling:
    • Models can now sample vertical attribute envelopes around a well, adding valuable signal to predictions.
  • New features for understanding well degradation:
    • New drainage features (total drainage without siblings/without parents) provide a new lense to understand well degradation patterns.
    • Addition of drainage features allows models to pay attention to situations where drainage is predominantly impacted by sibling wells, parent well, or both.

# 2.6 Release

September 10, 2025

  • Inventory Dashboard Updates:
    • Added option to discount cash flows to a certain date, rather than normalized time zero using the completion dates specified on the inventory location in the project.
    • Inventory Cash Flows:
      • Added toggle for x axis date: relative (time zero) or absolute (based on completion dates from Project).
      • If absolute date is selected, a vertical line shows on the charts indicating the discount date used.
    • New tab: Inventory Prediction Schedule:
      • Visualize how production stacks up as wells ramp up and decline over time.
      • Three time series charts with actual dates, calculated from INV completion dates and user input timing values.
  • 'Batches' were renamed to 'Projects'
  • Inventory Project Updates:
    • Oil and gas productivity heat maps (12-mon cum and EUR/ft) are now visible as layers on the project map for each target interval.
    • Improved copy/paste experience for inventory sticks so that pasted wells are selected automatically.
    • A new PDP table was added to the project map which allows users to select any wells on the map and then view details about those wells.
  • Gun Barrel Updates:
    • Wells in the gun barrel diagram can be colored by first production year.
    • The color by 'Pad' logic was improved to consider the completion dates of the wells.
    • Gun barrel generation was improved so that the gun barrel appears almost instantly after creating a cross section.

# 2.5 Release

August 19, 2025

  • Shapefile Management: Added ability to upload and manage shapefiles as map layers.
    • New 'Shapefiles' tab in the top menu for uploading, deleting, grouping, and editing shapefiles.
    • Multiple shapefiles can grouped together to create a single map layer.
    • Shapefile properties (color, line width, opacity) can be customized.
    • Shapefiles are stored at the repo level and are available to all users, across all inventory evaluations in the repo.
  • Copy/Paste Functionality: Added copy/paste feature for wells in the inventory editor.
    • New 'Copy Wells' and 'Paste Wells' tools in the map's left menu.
    • Standard keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V) work in the table view.
    • Pasted wells retain location but receive new well and scenario names.
    • Wells can be copied from map selection and pasted into Excel.
  • Gun Barrel Enhancements:
    • Wells can be colored by pad, scenario, or landing target.
    • Pad grouping is based on well naming convention with configurable prefix length.
    • Added gun barrel (GB) table showing all displayed wells (PDP and PUD) with x-offset distance and TVDSS values.
    • Horizontal and vertical distances between wells in the viewer can be toggled on and off.
  • Insights Dashboard Updates:
    • Multivariate Type Curves: Improved marking experience on the map between grid cells and well sticks. This makes it easier to keep grid cells selected while selecting PDP wells, and vice versa.
    • Inventory Well Predictions: PDP production curves in the Inventory Prediction tab are now normalized by user defined settings (e.g. 10k lateral)
  • Moved 'Launch' button from right menu to top menu bar in inventory editor for better visibility.
  • Changed default well spacing for inventory draw tool to 1320 ft.
  • Fixed bug preventing large inventory batches from saving.
  • Added automatic saving of inventory wells when 'Launch' button is clicked.
  • Added optional 'Well Offset' input to the inventory draw tool to offset the first inventory well by a specified distance from the reference point.

# 2.4 Release

August 5, 2025

  • Section layer in base map is now available across all PetroAI maps for all of US. This includes the map in the inventory evaluations and all Insights dashboards.
  • Vertical section lines are displayed in the gun barrel viewer.
  • Builds now show progress, visible in the 'Build' and 'Compute' pages.
  • Fixed a bug that caused builds to fail if the Frac Fingerprint json file was not present in the build directory even when the Frac Fingerprint feature was not enabled.
  • Sub-batches are now automatically generated when a build is launched in the Inventory Evaluation tool. This allows for a single batch to be used across multiple builds, and protects against making changes to inventory wells before a build completes.
  • Added ability to save type curves to PetroAI and view them from a new 'Type Curves' tab. A Type Curve Viewer dashboard is also available to help users manage and compare type curves.
  • Made substantial updates and improvements to the Inventory Dashboard.
    • Fixed a bug in the auto-type curve parameters (set oil, set gas).
    • Added INV well sticks to the map for better orientation on the Explore Wells and on the Type Curve tab.
    • On the Type Curve tab, changed time series table to selected type curve wells, added button to load PDP time series data in the Controls menu.
    • On the Inventory Prediction tab, changed color of INV wells, added PDP prod curves in background of INV predictions + Toggle, added ability to toggle both Line by and Color by, rather than the previous Group By.
    • Added new query for RAW_prod that joins well_features outside of Spotfire to improve dashboard performance.

# 2.3 Release

July 16, 2025

  • Added 'batch' as a required filed for inventory builds. Bathes allow for specific subsets of locations to be predicted while keeping all locations in the source table.
  • Initial release of a new map editor for creating and editing inventory locations. The new editor allows users to quickly create and edit inventory locations on a map with linked table and gun barrel viewer.
  • The gun barrel viewer shows both PDP wells and inventory locations.
  • Users can launch the inventory predictions directly from the map editor.

# 2.2 Release

June 17, 2025

  • Inventory builds now support a user-defined offset distance (e.g. 3 miles) to automatically include nearby PDP wells.
  • Builds now automatically update their status: successful builds are marked complete, and failed ones are marked failed. Use the Compute tab to refresh the status.

# 2.1 Release

June 3, 2025

  • Improved speed of inventory builds by performing a direct database copy of data products when they are already available. Users should see a significant reduction in build time when running inventory predictions.
  • Added a new 'Inventory' page under the 'Data' tab where users can create, edit, and paste a table of well locations that will get predictions. This allows users to quickly populate the inventory source table from inside PetroAI.
  • Replaced many advanced configuration options with smart defaults to simplify the build configuration.
